Kingston Area Guide

A historic market town with great shops, food and schools plus beautiful riverside strolls.

The Property scene

Kingston has a variety of properties from Victorian cottages and villas and fine detached double-fronted Edwardian houses along tree-lined Albany Park Road to newly built riverside apartments, most notably Charter Quay, off Market Place, Kingston Riverside and Royal Quarter.

The Coombe area off Kingston Hill and Coombe Lane West has some of London’s most expensive homes, including large detached houses in big plots.

Eat, drink, do

Steeped in history, Kingston’s ancient market town boasts a thoroughly modern offering of shops, restaurants, arts and nightlife.

The third ranking shopping centre in London outside the West End and Westfield, Kingston has two department stores — John Lewis, with a Waitrose on the ground floor, and Bentalls, now owned by Fenwick.

Elsewhere in the pretty cobbled streets of the market town you’ll find brands like Whistles, Ghost, Jo Malone ,Space NK and Anthropologie along with a renowned food and flower market.

When it comes to food there’s plenty on offer too, with chains such as Zizzi’s, Wagamamas and Carluccios all in residence. There’s also plenty of lovely riverside pubs and bars to choose from, perfect for long summer evenings watching the boats go by.

Kingston also has The Rose Theatre, the largest theatre in South West London with an exciting and varied year round program for culture lovers and a large Curzon cinema complete with rooftop cocktail bar for film buffs.

Located on the A3, Kingston offers easy access to the M3 and the M25. The town’s train station will get you to London Waterloo in half an hour with options to change at Clapham Junction or Vauxhall. The station is in Travel Zone 6 and an annual travelcard to Zone 1 costs £2,364.

Kingston has plenty of highly recommend primary and secondary state and private schools including Kingston College, Tiffin, Tiffin Girls, Canbury Girls, Lady Eleanor Hollis and Kingston Grammar amongst others.
