DIY projects to add value to your home

It’s easy to look around our homes and see plenty of opportunities to revamp and improve our properties with a little DIY. Before you crack out your toolbox though, it’s worth thinking about what is going to add value to your property and what you might not get a return on.

Here’s our top five things you can do that will give your home a refresh whilst being low effort and relatively low cost too!

Upgrade your bathroom

When you think about revamping your bathroom, it can feel like a high effort, high cost project. However small upgrades can make a huge difference in this room. A new toilet seat, fresh shower head or upgraded taps can transform your space. If you’re feeling a little more ambitious you could even look to freshen up your tiles or install a new towel rail to add some value for a relatively low cost.

Give it a lick of paint

You’d be amazed at how a fresh coat of paint can completely transform a space; both inside and outside your home.

If you’re thinking about selling or renting your home, it’s probably best to opt for neutral tones to create a fresh, blank canvas. If not, this could be a great opportunity to put a stamp on your home without breaking the budget.

We’d also suggest that you invest in good quality paint and, if precision isn’t your strong point, getting a professional in to do it to ensure you get the end result you’re looking for.

Create a strong first impression

Your front door is the first thing you see when you arrive at your home, so it’s worth making sure it packs a punch. You’d be amazed at the difference a thorough clean can give along with a fresh coat of paint. If you really want to give your entrance way a new lease of life why not replace the letterbox and door knocker?

Get outdoors

If you’ve got some outdoor space, you’d be surprised at how much value is added by keeping it well presented. If you’re not an avid gardener why not try adding some decking and potted plants that are easier to upkeep than a lawn and beds. If you’re pretty green fingered, make sure you keep on top of the mowing and plant some colourful flowers to bring life to your outdoor space all year round.
